The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid was a gift to the city of Copenhagen from Danish brewer, Carl Jacobsen. It is made of bronze and granite and is based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who gives up everything to be with a young handsome prince on land. I had seen her twice from the back side when I was on my boat tours so I had to see her from the front.

Thousands of tourists in boats and on shore come to see the Little Mermaid.

The statue is very small and over the years has had pieces stolen or has been tampered with.

A photo of myself with the Little Mermaid and no one else in the picture! To do this is quite a feat. First of all there are thousands of people here and second of all there is a fair sized space with slippery rocks to go over. To make it worse, I was wearing my bicycle sandals that have metal cleats on the underside which made it very slippery on the rocks.. My challenge to everyone is to have your photo alone and touching the Little Mermaid.  Thank you so much to the girl who took the photo for me.
