Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Ny Carlsberg Glptotek displays ancient and modern art in truly unique surroundings. It also has a beautiful garden atmosphere in the central portion.  The collection is built around the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen, 1842-1914, the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries.("ny" means "new" in Danish; "Glyptotek" comes from the Greek root glyphein, to carve, and theke, storing place) It houses over 10,000 works and consists of one collection of ancient art with sculptures from Egypt from 3000 BC to the end of the Roman imperial period in the 5th century AC, and one modern collection with Danish and French art from the 18th and 19th centuries.
