A visit with Jan and Helle

I arrived early at Jan and Helle's home. They were very busy getting their Air B&B , the little Leather Shop, ready for a couple that were going to rent it for a few days. Helle showed me my room and the bathroom . While they were taking their dog to the vet to have his sore leg checked, I showered and walked around the house and the yard.

Jan who has traveled extensively in his life was in the building sales industry before the financial crisis a few years back. He met Helle in Scotland when they were younger and both going to school to learn horse saddle workmanship. They met off and on during the years in between travels and finally married and have one grown son. They own a separate building that is the Air B&B and also their workshop. Jan just sold his beautiful sail boat to a man in Lithuania and he and the man sailed it there. Now Jan's interest is in catamarans. Jan and Helle both planned and built this house and landscaped up from the road and planted all their trees.

Helle has a mother , Dorte and two brothers that live close and farm over 2000 hectares of land into onions, sweet corn, cabbage, potatoes and many more vegetables. It is a HUGE operation.

I asked if I could help with something and Helle suggested I could pick some berries before the rain. I think I did well!

Before supper Jan had to go feed his horse and also pick up some vegetables from the store.
Jan says he rides his horse down to the beach and lets it swim and he hangs on by the tail and lets it pull him.

With Dorte, Helle's mother. She is 85 and drinks wine and smokes and the only problem she has is balance, so she uses walking sticks. She is very talkative and also well traveled in her lifetime. She and her husband were very hard working successful farmers in South Africa and then Denmark.
The Air B&B, the Little Leather Shop in Assens on the island of Fyn, Denmark. It is totally booked all year.
