The OLD is Family History

The outside entrance past the gate.

The wooden window shutters

The dowel work holding these benches together

Grandfather's old tool bench

Looking up in the loft the big original timbers held together by dowels.

Just inside the front door on the left Jean-Noël has kept the original wall.

The big ceiling timbers have been resupported by using cranes and the cross timbers are all painted white .

A photo showing the cattle putting their heads through the window into a house

The window in the center of the photo was used for the same purpose.

Close up of old hewn wood

Dowel

A former sink

This old iron reminded me of the one I have at home that belonged to my mother.

An old grinder

Children's chair

The chiming clock is silent while I am here.

A walking stick with a serpent that was made by Jean-Noël's greatgrandfather when he was imprisoned during the war. It reminded me of the old testament story of the Jewish nation and all their complaints. Snakes were sent and the people were only saved if they obeyed and looked up at the serpent on the pole. It is the same that we have to have faith and look up to Jesus  dying for our sins on the cross to save us.

Hard to see the serpents head

The family tree goes back many generations.

A photo similar to the ones I have taken in this forested area

This bench reminded me of my childhood. We had 8 children in our family and 4 sat on a bench on each side of the table. It was probably the same here and that is also why the tables are so long.

An old hand hewn wooden shovel

A two backed chair maybe specifically for a corner?

An old shirt made from flax from the fields here.

Original stone wall in the bathroom and lacy curtains

Grandmother's old mirror  reframed by Jean- Noël with recycled wood

An old pitcher

A bigger one

There are many old closets in the house just like we had in ours. In Dutch we called it a dressoir.

Old wooden stove-In my youth we would wake up and stand around one like it to get warm.

A kitchen hanging

This house,  Capberné, is a family heirloom that Jean-Noël has beautifully restored keeping the old  but adding some new so that he and Dona and other family and guests like myself can feel the history and  get away from the hustle of life
Thank you both for inviting me here . May God bless you both.
