Day 47- Goodbye New Brunswick (for a while) - Hello Nova Scotia

Day 47 Thursday, June 24, 2010 Distance 13.84 km. Time 1 hr. Total so far 3142.18 km. We took our time this morning and then rode down to the ferry dock to be there an hour early. It was foggy and windy and cold. In the waiting area , we talked to Lolly and Ken from Grimsby, Ontario. Actually, they had stayed at the same Econolodge and we had said hello to Ken in the parking lot. They have twin sons 35 years old that were excellent runners before the Hayman children came on the scene. Their twins are inseparable and still live together. Ken and Lolly have their bicycles with their camper but since Lolly has had two knee replacements, they are limited to shorter rides. Later, we were talking to Eileen from Maine who is going to Nova Scotia on a ten day visit. Finally we could board and I insisted that our bicycles be tied just like the motorcycles were. I did a tour of the Princess Acadia while Dave found a seat and tried to get warm. The crossing took 3 hours so I went to the food line and during the hour that it took to get some food, I talked to Sylvia, from Mississippi. She had a real accent. Many in her family lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina. Her husband has an autobody business and lost one of his buildings years ago to another hurricane. She says she is missing her grandchildren who all live close by and this will be her last long trip far from them. Back at my seat, I was busy talking to the bus driver of one of the tour buses . He is from Virginia and was even harder to understand. He has taken people on tours to Mackinaw Island. While we were chatting away there was an announcement that a whale was sighted so we rushed out to the deck and I saw a whale about 5 times going up and down in the distance but too far to take a picture so I took a photo of everyone looking. I think it was a small whale, but exciting nonetheless. As we approached land, I took a few pictures from the deck and we talked to Ken and Lolly again. We were able to leave the ferry right after the first row of cars which was good because of all the exhaust fumes. We took our photos with the Nova Scotia sign and went to the visitor information building and finished at the Digby Campground. This place has little open shelters and others with doors and bunks so we took one of those. We met one lady that we talked to on the ferry and she was camping here and was going to the store on her bicycle. Thank goodness for a roof over our heads because it rained during the night so our tent is still dry.
