Day 39-Lobster with Jon, Cheryl, twins Anna Marie, and Brianna and little Craig in Madison

Day 39, June 16, 2010 Distance 39.16 km. Time 2 hr. 12 min. Total so far 2731.39 km. Elevation climb 8057 ft. The night was pretty cool and the traffic going by was very loud but we got some sleep. We came immediately to New Sharon and then had lots of uphills today. I always finish climbing and then turn backwards to photo the hill that we have come up. At Norridgewock, we turned off Hwy 2 to Hwy 201A which will take us to Madison, Maine where Andy's sister Cheryl and her husband Jon live. We went up and down many hills and finally came to Madison but alas there was no town sign on this road. A few streets down we turned on Jones street and found their house. It was about 10:30 am. The twins, Anna Marie and Brianna were so excited to see us. They look a lot like their mother. I can tell them apart because one is a little smaller than the other. They introduced themselves and had their bicycles ready and wanted to go riding. Cheryl came out with 5 month old Craig. He is a cutie and looks more like his dad. We unpacked and set up the tent and let the girls try it out as they have never camped before. Then we sprayed the tent floor with some waterproofer and let it dry in the sun. Dave took the girls for two rides down the street and I visited. We had lunch and then all walked to the post office to mail post cards and one parcel. Later, Jon's nephew, Josh, came by and delivered some lobsters. How exciting! The claws were kept closed by elastics. We put them in thee cooler. When Jon came home. He put on a big pot of water and we got to grab the lobsters behind their heads and put them in the pot. I felt bad as they were still alive! After 15 minutes, they were red and ready and I got to pull them out of the pot. Jon, who has grown up in Maine, gave us lessons on how to pull sections off and crack or cut through the shell and pull out the flesh, dip it in butter and eat it. I am the kind that cleans it all off and then eats it all at the same instead of eating it as each piece comes out. I found it not fishy tasting, but a little rubbery feeling. The leg and claw meat is more chewy. I ate one and a half and Dave ate two. The girls had RED Maine hotdogs. Then we finished with lobster tracks ice cream for dessert, cleaned up and the ladies played Pictionary while the guys talked about map routes.

  1. Wow! How exciting!! I love lobster! I was in the area once and had fresh lobster. There were also places like hot dog stands that sold lobster salad in a hot dog bun. That was the best!! Keep safe!
