Day 90- I need a computer with French accent signs now

Day 90 Friday, August 6, 2010 Distance 87.11 km. Time 5 hr. 29 min. Total so far 6357.56 km. I was grumpy and hungry this morning in our little screened in cottage but relieved to see no flats on Silver. We tidied up the cabin to the way we found it yesterday and headed into Perth Andover which is another amalgamation of towns, one on each side of the St. John River. They were well kept towns with some park spaces that we probably could have used to camp. We were now on Hwy. 130 , with the wind strong in our face and headed to Aristook. The old train station there was turned into mailboxes. After we crossed the Aristook River, the uphill road was all stripped of its pavement and luckily there was an intact side edge that we could use to climb up. Our first break was by a railing which had a big patch of brown-eyed susies in bloom. It’s one of my favorite flowers. We had nice views of the fields of ripe oats, and potatoes and other green coloured crops. Grand Sault- Grand Falls has angle parking and that was very dangerous for us as cars were backing out and couldn’t see us coming. We stopped at Burger King for water and the help looked very young. I asked the one girl her age and she said she was 10. Apparently, she is the manager’s daughter. We decided to both have an ice cream to give her some business. We took photos of the falls and gorge but I think it must be more spectacular in the spring. Hwy. 144 led us to St. Andre which had a huge building with church like windows but no sign as to what it was. In St. Leonard, we went to the grocery store and had lunch in the little park next door. There we saw Werner and Karen. They are going from Ottawa to St. John by bed and breakfasts. Consequently, they only have bags on the back of their bicycles. Later, we passed through Sainte Anne de Madawaska. It was a poorer town but one thing that stands out in all of them is the huge Catholic churchs. The sky was overcast (seems that happens a lot lately) so we started looking for a camping spot. We saw a motel, far off the road, but the rooms all had 5 or 6 steps up to them which is difficult with the bikes so we kept going which may have been a mistake because we came to an 11 km. long construction zone where the top pavement had again been stripped off to a serrated appearance and poor Silver and I suffered many bumps and bruises going over it. That brought us to a little town called Riviere Verte ( I cannot type French accent signs on this computer) and immediately we saw two picnic tables, some flat cut grass and decided to stay there. Setup was quick and everything thrown in just in time for a little rain. We napped and then I typed a blog on Microsoft while Dave walked down to a store to get a pop. We hurried supper to beat the bugs. Two trains went right by us during the evening but the night was quiet.
