Day 29-Severe thunderstorms-bicycles not going anywhere today
Day 29 I spent most of the night thanking the Lord for giving us this enclosed building. I wish I could have tape recorded the sound of the rain coming down for several hours last night and at the present moment also and we are out of the elements, cozy and dry. About half an hour ago, Dave was still debating going and then it started again. It is thundering and lightning also this time. With one of the garage doors open, we are able to get internet. On the weather screen for Northeast USA, we are on the edge of severe thunderstorm warnings. We also read that Windsor, Ontario area is also having bad storms. The owner, Dean, had to go into town to the grocery store so Dave has gone with him. I encouraged him to put on rain gear but men are too macho for that so I wonder what his warm clothes, that he just put on, will be like upon his return. They are back now and he is a little damp! Dean took him along another road for a while to the American baseball hall of fame in Coopersville which is north of here. They have one area there where there can be 20 games played at the same time. He says he gets lots of business here because the accommodations there are expensive. Starting next weekend, it will be busy all summer. He has tents and trailers already set up that people can stay in. The torrents of rain didn't stop until about 3 pm after our nap. This area of New York has been very dry so the rain is welcome. Last night, we finally got an email from our daughter, Emily, who is a forest fire fighter based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She has been fighting fires for 19 days in a row so far up there. She says one was caused by careless teenagers and another was caused by a man who was pulling a trailer and one of the wheels disengaged and he, unknowingly, kept driving making sparks everywhere that started grass fires that became one big one. Here it has cooled off a bit and the wind has changed direction. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again so we should be on the road again.

Mom and Dad!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are nice and dry and enjoying each others company!!! We all know how tough it is camping out when it is raining. No fun at all! I'm so glad there was a pavilion for you to stay under as those puddles look a little deep .... looks like it rained A LOT! We did a quick trip up to Banff today and did a very touristy hike with a friend. Thought of you guys as we saw a lot of bikers, but only a few with full gear!
Love Sarah
