Day 28-Nice Highway 7

Day 28 Saturday June 5, 2010 Distance 100.79 km. Time 5 hrs. 36 min. Total so far 2035.35 km. We're on the road again and it feels good. Dave got us lost getting us out of Binghamton and we had to backtrack two miles. We then had to get on Interstate 88 for about two miles to avoid a gigantic hill on the other roads. Bicycles really aren't allowed on the interstate. Thank goodness it was just a short way. Highway 7 runs along the interstate almost all the way up to Schenectady. It was really nice with a good shoulder, not very much traffic, no trucks and many small towns. We passed through Port Crane, Sanitaria, Belden, Harpursville, Nineveh, Afton, Bainbridge, Unadilla and Wells Bridge. I met Stacey today who used to live in Maine. She thought what we were doing was awesome. We also met Tom when we were stopped to fill our water as it was very hot with threatening skies all day. Tom is a motorcyclist. We have hardly seen any of them today. Maybe they are just fair weather riders. After 5 hours, we tried the town park in Otego but it closes at night and they fine those who stay. We went on and found Susquehanna Trail Campground just before a little bit of rain. The owner was surprised when we chose his enclosed pavilion instead of a campsite. Our little building is like a motel room. We have three picnic tables, room for the tent and the bicycles and the best thing is that everything will be dry in the morning. We had showers and then a nap. We just finished supper and I am trying to finish this before it gets dark.
