The Copenhagen Citadel was founded by King Christian 4 in 1626. It is one of the best preserved fortresses in Northern Europe Today it is used as military barracks and offices. It is shaped like a hexagon with a moat around the outside and then a bunker or rampart wall for protection. At certain points the cannons are still there. The barracks are all in red brick and the main quarters are in yellow brick. The streets are all cobblestones and I felt bad for one lady who was pushing her husband in a wheel chair and could go no farther because of the rough stones. I made sure that I went to see the beautifully preserved windmill and have a photo taken.
