An evening with Claus and Trudy

Trudy is a New Zealander who is now living with Claus, who is Danish. They live in Roskilde , a city that used to be the capitol of Denmark. They are a very well traveled couple that met while they were bicycling in New Zealand. They just made the front page of the local newspaper as well as two other pages in it. Claus was translating the Danish to English for Trudy.  They just returned from bicycling Denmark to the Artic circle in Sweden. Claus has done the long walks in Spain and Portugal and years ago he went around the world with others in a double decker bus. Claus is a teacher in a special school for difficult students and Trudy is currently looking for work.
After I got settled, I met Helle who also lives in the apartment building.
The pullout couch of the living room was my bedroom.

Front page news...
....and more...
...and more.

Claus teaches with Jan who came over with his wife, Alien. They are back to work this week with lots of meetings with new teachers about how to deal with all the new students and new programs. The students start next Monday. Jan shows the students shop skills and Claus is in the arts area. Then the conversation turned to the art on the wall. The photo on the left was done by a student.
Claus has done about 12 art pieces using gun powder  and this is his favourite. He has sold and given away others. He gets a BIG BANG out of making these works of art.  We enjoyed hearing him talk about making them.
Trudy made a nice supper of  noodles and chicken sauce.
Claus needed to unwind from his day of school meetings so he took off on his gravel bike, the one he uses for touring and would meet us later.
Claus and Trudy also have  Brompton bicycles. They are very popular folding bicycles from England. Trudy suggested we go for a cycle down to the harbour. I took a video as it took her about 20 seconds to unfold the bicycle. It took me a while to get used to riding without the weight of bags on it. They are fun to ride.

Thank you Trudy and Claus for your Warmshowers hospitality and kindness to me. May God bless you both abundantly.
