Remembering Geoff, Dave's brother

We were saddened yesterday to find out that last Wednesday, July 14, 2010, Dave's older brother, Geoff, from Vernon, BC., passed away quickly of an aortic aneurysm as he was just about to go in his car with his daughter and grandchildren to a park for a walk. Geoff was 65 and had just retired at the end of June from teaching at the Okanagan Valley college. My daughter, Melissa, in memory in an email described him as a "gentle giant, soft spoken and kind who had a love of trains, Star trek and history." Three of our children visited him over the years when they cross country skied at Silver Star Mountain and Geoff and Janice always had them over. We had a very nice visit with him two summers ago when we bicycled out west. We even got him out for a few rides on his electric bicycle. The most important thing that we know from talking to him is that he is in heaven now for instead of relying on anything that he had done in life, he had put all his trust in the complete work of Jesus dying on the cross for all of his sins. We will keep Janice and the children, Gary, Alison Gregory and Karen and families in our prayers.

  1. Uncle Geoff will be missed very much. Even though we didn't get to see him very often, I have very fond memories of the times that we did get to visit. I will always remember my visits with him while at Silver Star: his dogs, looking at old yearbooks, and talking about history, trains, and Star Trek. As I said, he always reminded me of a gentle giant: so tall, but so soft-spoken & kind. I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother, Dad. I am thinking of you, Aunt Janice, & my cousins constantly, and wish we could all be there for them during this, the hardest of times. Hopefully they know of our love & support, even though we are all across the country.
